Punjab Wheat Cultivation Target Gets Big Push as Minister Orders Full Use of Resources
The Punjab government has accelerated efforts to meet the Punjab Wheat Cultivation Target after Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani directed all departments to utilize every available resource. During a detailed review meeting in Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan, the minister emphasized that wheat sowing is directly linked to food security and must be completed on time, district by district.
He said the current wheat sowing season is “highly encouraging,” and all indicators show strong participation from farmers across the province. This year, Punjab aims to sow wheat on 16.85 million acres, making it one of the largest cultivation campaigns in recent years.
In this context, officials also discussed important updates regarding wheat production in Punjab, Punjab agriculture policies, DG Khan wheat sowing progress, farmers subsidy program, and the Green Tractor Scheme—all of which will support the province in meeting its wheat output goals.
Division-Wise Wheat Cultivation Targets Shared
During the meeting, senior officials briefed the minister on the division-wise targets. For Multan Division, the wheat sowing target is 1.776 million acres, while DG Khan Division must complete cultivation on 2.381 million acres.
Officials said the sowing drive is moving at an impressive pace due to favorable weather and timely land preparation. They further assured the minister that district teams have been mobilized to ensure smooth progress and coverage of every tehsil.
The minister stressed that government-owned agricultural land must achieve 100% wheat sowing, and daily monitoring is underway to verify the statistics shared by field teams. The Agriculture Department has deployed additional staff in areas where sowing progress slowed due to weather fluctuations or late harvesting.
High-Power Green Tractor Distribution Boosts Cultivation
To support farmers and help meet the Punjab Wheat Cultivation Target, the government has launched a massive High-Power Green Tractor Scheme. At an event held in Multan, the minister distributed tractors to eligible farmers and emphasized the importance of farm mechanization.
Punjab is providing 10,000 high-horsepower tractors under subsidy, and in Multan Division alone, 1,087 tractors have already been delivered.
The minister said these tractors will significantly reduce cultivation costs and improve efficiency at a time when farmers are racing to complete wheat sowing. The scheme is especially beneficial for small and medium farmers who struggle to afford modern machinery.

Kisan Card Expands Financial Access for Farmers
One of the most important tools supporting the wheat campaign is the Kisan Card, which has dramatically improved access to agricultural financing. Secretary Agriculture Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo informed the minister that 600,000 farmers have registered under the program.
Through this system, loans for seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery are being provided quickly and transparently. Over Rs. 60 billion has been distributed so far.
Farmers who repay their loans on time become eligible for new financing within 24 hours, creating a smooth and efficient credit cycle. This financial support ensures that even small farmers contribute to the province’s wheat production in Punjab, maintaining continuity in farming activities without delays.
Strict Directions to Ensure Seed & Fertilizer Availability
The minister emphasized that timely availability of certified seeds and fertilizers is crucial for meeting the Punjab Wheat Cultivation Target. He instructed district officers to ensure that no farmer faces shortages during the sowing season.
Agriculture teams are conducting market inspections to prevent hoarding and price manipulation. Fertilizer distributors have also been warned against creating artificial shortages.
The minister appreciated the role of private seed companies and cooperative distributors in maintaining stable market supplies. He advised farmers to use government-certified seeds to achieve higher yields this year.

Weather & Technology Support Faster Sowing
Favorable weather conditions and modern monitoring tools are helping the wheat campaign move faster than expected. Recent rains improved soil moisture, making it easier for farmers to prepare fields.
Additionally, the Agriculture Department is using satellite monitoring, mobile tracking, and field reporting dashboards to ensure transparent progress updates.
This digital approach allows officials to take quick action wherever sowing progress slows.
Officials say this year’s Punjab agriculture updates show a strong trend toward early sowing, which increases the chances of higher yield and better grain quality at harvest time.
Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Meeting Wheat Target
Concluding the meeting, Minister Kirmani said the Punjab Wheat Cultivation Target is not merely an administrative requirement—it is essential for food security, stable flour prices, and farmer income.
He said the provincial government is fully committed to ensuring timely sowing, adequate machinery, financial access, and agricultural inputs for all farmers.
He further directed that progress meetings be held daily until the sowing season ends, and strict action be taken against officials who fail to meet assigned targets.
Farmers were also encouraged to follow best practices, such as proper seed placement, balanced fertilizer usage, and efficient water management, to help increase yield per acre.
